Pharmacy Legislative Day

We are excited to partner with the Virginia Pharmacy Association as a host of the annual Pharmacy Legislative Day on Wednesday, January 22, 2025! Because of this partnership, members of VSHP are invited to register for this event at the $25 member rate! Take note the event will be at a different location, if you attended last year. VPhA has moved the event to the VCU Biotech Center at 800 E Leigh Street, Richmond, VA 23298 to accommodate more attendees and shorten the walk to the GA Building.

 Please plan to join us for the Commonwealth Leadership Forum on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, VA. The Leadership Forum will take place immediately before the VSHP Fall Seminar, October 18-19  also at Kingsmill.  

The purpose of the Forum is to:

1. Create a core networking group among Virginia Pharmacy Directors and Leaders for the purposes of information sharing and gaining consensus on key issues
2. Gain valuable insight on the role VSHP could play in advancing the practice of Pharmacy statewide and identify the value proposition for organizational leaders and their staff
3. Provide Leader targeted/specific educational content designed to foster understanding of practice trends to better handle issues of the future
4. Align VSHP with decision makers across the state in order to better leverage resources to create value for all

The Virginia Society of Health System Pharmacists (VSHP) wants to be your Professional Home. Contemporary Pharmacy Practice Management is becoming increasingly challenging and we have an opportunity to unite and create a professional network that can help us advance practice in the Commonwealth. 

You are invited to attend the VSHP Leaders' Forum held as we believe your contribution will be valuable. You may also bring one member of your team with you (can be a resident, formal or informal leader in any level of the profession). If you cannot attend, we would appreciate you considering allowing at least one member of your staff, in a leadership capacity, to attend.   VSHP will be covering all planned meal functions.  We ask that you be responsible for your own travel and lodging expenses.

2024 Fall Seminar Abstract and Poster Submission

VSHP is hosting a Poster Competition at VSHP Fall Seminar 2024!

Accepted posters will be displayed at the VSHP 2024 Fall Seminar on October 17-19, 2024 at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, VA.

General Information:

• The primary author for each pharmacy resident, pharmacy student, and pharmacy technician poster submission will receive free registration for the 2024 VSHP Fall Seminar.
• All presenters must be registered for the 2024 VSHP Fall Seminar, at minimum for the day of the presentation
• Only one submission per member is permitted as primary author. A member may be a co-author for multiple abstract and poster submissions.

Award Information:

• Primary author for pharmacist poster category will be eligible to win a recognition certificate from the VSHP Educational Affairs Committee
• The primary author for one submission in the pharmacy resident, pharmacy student, and pharmacy technician poster categories will be eligible to win a $100 award and a recognition
  certificate from the VSHP Educational Affairs Committee. One recognition certificate will be provided per category.
• One $100 award will be provided for the student, resident, and technician categories.

Key Dates:

• Monday, September 23rd, 2024: Due date for poster abstract only
• Monday, September 30th, 2024: Primary author will be notified by e-mail of submission acceptance/declination.
• Monday, October 14th, 2024: Due date for accepted posters to email their poster (in PDF format) to contact@vshp.org
• Saturday, October 19th, 2024: Author(s) present and available to discuss their posters at the VSHP Fall Seminar. Posters should remain displayed until the last day of the conference.
• The winning poster(s) will be alerted via direct email to the presenter and will be announced to the VSHP cohort in the VSHP newsletter and social media posts.

One of our VSHP members has submitted a petition to the BOP to reclassify Kratom as a Schedule I substance.  Public comments can be made here: https://townhall.virginia.gov/L/Comments.cfm?petitionid=409 and closes on 6/5/24 at midnight.

Attached are our comments that we submitted to the BOP as well as the original petition itself. 

We are asking you to comment via the link above to the BOP in support of the petition to reclassify kratom as a schedule I substance.  The Kratom lobby has rallied against this so we are trying to ensure our voices as health care professionals are not drowned out.

VSHP Grants Application 2024 Cycle Now Open!

VSHP’s Mission: The mission of the Virginia Society of Health-System Pharmacists is to inspire innovative pharmacy practice by promoting education, advocacy and collaboration to help people achieve optimal health outcomes.

Requirements:

1. All grants will be awarded to only VSHP members.
2. All grant funds must be used within 12 months of grant's approval date.
3. Unused funds must be returned to VSHP.
4. Applications will be evaluated based on impact, value feasibility and understanding how the grant fits within the VSHP mission.
5. Implementation date, budget update, outcomes reported so far (if applicable) and any pictures (if applicable) must be provided to VSHP every 6 months and a follow-up report to VSHP must be written within one year of disbursement of funds, or when the project has reached a completion milestone, whichever occurs first.
