Objectives for Pharmacists:
• Describe the historical and emerging regions of endemicity for melioidosis.
• Identify the morphology, pathogenesis, and routes of transmission of Burkholderia pseudomallei.
• Discuss the risk factors for and clinical manifestations of melioidosis in humans.
• Evaluate recommended antibiotic regimens in each phase of treatment for melioidosis.
Objectives for Pharmacy Technicians:
• List the regions of endemicity for melioidosis within and outside of the United States.
• Identify common signs and symptoms of melioidosis in humans.
• Compare recommended antibiotic treatment options and durations of therapy for melioidosis.
