Presentation Objectives for Pharmacists:

• 1.      Discuss the pathophysiology of iron absorption and role of iron in the human body
• 2.      Explain the risk of administering iron during a bacterial or viral infection
• 3.      Demonstrate how to diagnose iron deficiency with or without anemia and when to treat
• 4.      Identify when to use oral vs parental iron therapy in patients with heart failure and chronic kidney disease
