Objectives for Pharmacists
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Describe key updates and recommendations in the 2026 AHA/ACC guideline for the management of acute PE
- Define criteria for acute PE categorization per 2026 AHA/ACC guideline
- Identify an appropriate therapeutic strategy for PE based on patient-specific factors
- Discuss a guideline-based plan for post-PE follow-up
Objectives for Pharmacy Technicians
At the conclusion of this activity, pharmacy technicians should be able to:
- Identify key updates and recommendations in the 2026 AHA/ACC guideline for the management of acute pulmonary embolism (PE).
- Describe the criteria used to categorize acute PE according to the 2026 AHA/ACC guideline.
- Differentiate commonly used anticoagulant and thrombolytic therapies for acute PE based on general patient and medication-related factors.
- Explain the importance of medication access, adherence, monitoring, and follow-up after an acute PE.
- Describe the pharmacy technician’s role in supporting the safe preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications used to manage acute PE.

Virginia Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider for continuing pharmacy education and has assigned 1 contact hour (0.1 CEU) of continuing pharmacy education credits for participating in this activity. Participants of the session who complete the evaluation and provide accurate NABP e-Profile information will have their credit submitted to CPE Monitor as early as 1 day after the event and no later than 60 days after the event. Please know that if accurate e-Profile information is not provided within 60 days of the event, credit cannot be claimed after that time. The participant is accountable for verifying the accurate posting of CE credit to their CPE Monitor account within 60 days. Participants must participate in the activity and complete the course evaluation in its entirety to claim continuing pharmacy education credit.
